Salomon Speedcross 4 Review

Salomon Speedcross 4 extends the uniqueness with vibrant colors and toothy traction on the ground. As one of the most updated versions of Salomon, Speedcross 4 appears to be one of the toughest pieces to hit the floor. It is considered as a mountain machine shoe that can survive steep hills, long distances, and rocky, muddy, pointed surfaces. Speedcross 4 earn ranked #3 in the best trail shoes reviews by Runner's Choice. Let’s take an overall view of the updated version of the shoe and see how it can benefit you;

Size and fit

One of the outclass features of Speedcross 4 is its fit. The shoe tends to give great fitting and security.

The shoe is padded in the most needed areas to maintain its comfort.

Regarding size, it runs the same as it declares and has a narrow-to-medium fit throughout. If you have a wider foot than normal sizes, you might have to snug into the toe box and feel the shoe a bit tight with your original size.

Stability

You might not consider it as the most stable shoe, but yet they aren’t a disappointment.

The high stack height and low cut ankles make the shoe slightly tippy with you make a turn.

The shoe has 11mm heel-to-toe drop which suits this version well, but if you are comfortable with zero drops, then this will be a bit unusual to your style.

Outsoles and Traction

Salomon Speedcross 4 Outsole
The outsole of the shoe consists of Contagrip rubber and arrow-shaped lugs. The rubber grip is used to give better traction on wet and muddy surfaces. The lugs are placed opposite to each other to give multi-directional grip and remain firm on rugged surfaces.

In the earlier version of Speedcross, the arrow-shaped lugs were placed half-way, but in this version, they are across the shoe.

Unlike other shoes, Speedcross 4 doesn’t use a rock guard. However, the lugs act like a rock guard and secure the feet from hitting sharp and pointed objects.

The lug design of Speedcross gives incredible uphill, downhill, and side-hill traction. It is also known as a traction machine amongst runners.

No matter what is the surface like, Salomon Speedcross 4 had never disappointed in its performance and proven to be steady on muddy, snowy and wet trails.

Midsole Cushioning

Salomon Speedcross 4 Midsole
The midsole is made up of a thick slice of molded EVA foam. This foam serves as the main cushion that gives protection to the foot when in touch with rough, pointed and unpredicted surfaces.

The cushioning and steadiness of the midsole is perfect so you wouldn’t need an underfoot rock guard.

The shoe uses think EVA foam in the midsole to give soft and durable cushioning. With this padded cushion, it remains light in weight.

Upper

Salomon Speedcross 4 Upper
The upper of Speedcross 4 is made up of SensiFit System, an anti-debris mesh and midfoot overlays stitched in connection with the Quick Lace. This combination is made to give the foot comfort and security.

The quick tug lacing system helps in getting the right fit if the shoe, staying in position.

The inner upper of the shoe is made up of an ortholite sock liner that keeps your foot odor free, sweat free and prevents it moisture and bacteria.

Conclusion

Salomon Speedcross 4 is by far the most modified version of Salomon and proven to be an authentic choice for runners. Though you might not like the stability of the shoe, you can’t question on the durability and its superb traction on all kinds of insane surfaces.

The shoe is light in weight and brings you lots of stylish colors. Unlike other trail shoe brands, Salomon is also known for its fresh and chic look that appeals all ages.

Speedcross 4 beats all other brands when it's about mountain terrains and brutal surfaces. All in one, if you are an athlete or mountain race runner, you will love its toughness and ruggedness.
